Let us be grateful to people who make us happy

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” -Marcel Proust

With all the craziness going on, it can be easy to forget or take for granted the importance of our loved ones in filling our lives with meaning. We get caught up in work or school or life, get used to having our loved ones around, and forget what a gift it is to have them with us. Today, take a moment to be grateful for the people in your life who make you happy, who support you, and who care for you.

Dr. John Gottman on Successful Long-Term Relationships

Dr. John Gottman says, “Successful long-term relationships are created through small words, small gestures, and small acts.”

The important moments, the ones that strengthen relationships, often happen in small ways.  Reaching out to your partner, leaning into their bids for affection especially during conflict, showing affection, recognizing the things that they do that enhance your life, and taking time to laugh together, are some examples of small ways that you can show your partner you care every day.

Check out Dr. Gottman’s Small Things Often podcast for more small ways to strengthen your relationship each day.

Check on your strong friends!

We all have at least one friend who we consider the strong friend.  They always seem to have it under control, regardless of what may be going on in their world.  They’re emotionally balanced. They make the right decisions in the heat of the moment. They know exactly what to say to make you feel better.

But the truth is that everyone needs a little check-in now and then, even your strong friends.

Take some time today and reach out to your strong friend. Ask them how they’ve been, or to spend some time together.

We all need a little support every now and then – even the strongest of us.
