What is a healthy relationship, and why is it important, and what are we doing to help you achieve that?
The Guilford County Healthy Relationships Initiative promotes happy, healthy, and safe relationships in our community.
Healthy relationships are vital to healthy lives and healthy communities. When people hear the term, “relationship,” their first thoughts may go to couple relationships or families. In addition to these important kinds of relationships, other relationships are around us every day–friendships, neighbors, work colleagues, and even passing interactions within our community. Whether relationships last for a few moments or for a lifetime, the health of those relationships has a huge impact on our quality of life and the wellbeing of our community.
The Guilford County Healthy Relationships Initiative (HRI) works together with various community partners to promote safe, healthy, and happy relationships of all kinds. Each individual is likely to have a unique definition of what a “healthy relationship” looks like to them. However, we believe that there are certain universal elements to healthy relationships. These include respect, trust, safety, acceptance, freedom of choice, positive communication and conflict management, and fun .
Through community mobilization, public awareness activities, educational programs, and facilitated access to relationship-supportive services and interventions, HRI aims to build a community in which happy, healthy, and safe relationships are valued, supported, and celebrated. We invite you to join us in making this vision a reality for Guilford County!
